The Hurunui Water Project is strongly supported by funding arrangements with Crown Irrigation Investments Limited (CIIL) under their Regional Irrigation Development Fund, the local community of farmer/shareholder investors and by Rooney Group Limited, our project development partner.
In July 2016, HWP began a partnership with CIIL, when the Ministry of Primary Industries turned irrigation development funding over to its crown entity, CIIL. As with MPI’s former Irrigation Acceleration Fund (IAF), CIIL provides funding that can be drawn, on a dollar for dollar basis, for expenditure directly related to scheme development.
Rooney Group Limited
The Rooney Group came on board with HWP as part of an Early Contractor Involvement Agreement (ECI), signed in early September 2016. Founded in 1976 by Gary Rooney, RGL is a multi-disciplinary company with branches in civil contracting, civil consulting, fibre cable laying, cartage and transportation, farming, irrigation Scheme development, pond lining solutions and tourism operations. RGL offers a total solution to irrigation Scheme design and construction, through to the delivery of water to shareholders. It has successfully constructed a number of Canterbury irrigation Schemes.
The ECI partnership provides technical expertise, interim development funding and project management services. The partnership has progressed the scheme design development through to completion of the feasibility stage, enabling a preferred scheme configuration to be identified and costed prior to detailed design and construction.
Gary and his team work closely with HWP as part of the Project Control Group to design the best irrigation scheme for HWP shareholders and the Hurunui District community.
